What the hospital finder includes

The finder combines 41 active Clark County hospital, rural-hospital, and freestanding-birth-center licenses from Nevada with current Clark County hospital information from Medicare. After matching duplicate entries, it lists 45 facilities. Medicare’s hospital types and ownership details appear when available; the freestanding birth center is identified separately. A facility found only in Nevada’s list stays labeled “State-licensed hospital” because the public license category does not establish a more specific type.

Medicare supplies facility type, ownership, emergency-service status, overall quality stars, and Birthing-Friendly status for hospitals in its data. Missing Medicare information stays unknown. It never becomes a zero, a low rating, or a guess. An active Nevada license does not mean every service is offered, open, covered by insurance, or appropriate for a particular patient.

CMS stars and Leapfrog grades are different systems

CMS currently reports a one-to-five Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating for 14 directory hospitals. It combines multiple measures into a hospital-level summary; it is not a condition-specific outcome, emergency-routing instruction, or guarantee about an individual stay. Sort available ratings if that helps narrow the research, then compare the measures relevant to the planned service and discuss them with the treating clinician.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a separate A–F program focused on preventable harm and medical errors. Leapfrog requires written permission for commercial republication, so this site does not copy, infer, store, or sort its letter grades. Check a hospital directly through Leapfrog’s official search for the current grade.

Urgent care, hospital emergency care, and 911 are separate paths

The guide lists 37 urgent-care locations from current health-system pages. A separate list covers 21 freestanding emergency departments, neighborhood hospitals, a microhospital, and an emergency department away from a current main-hospital campus. These settings stay separate because services, staffing, billing, and appropriate uses differ. Some neighborhood hospitals also appear in the hospital finder, so do not add the totals together. Confirm a clinic's hours, age limits, testing or imaging, insurance, and wait before leaving; a location page is not live availability.

Nevada’s public facility search does not have a general urgent-care license category. This guide therefore covers the Clark County locations published by CareNow, UMC Quick Care, Optum Nevada / Southwest Medical, and Intermountain Health InstaCare. It does not claim to include every retail, occupational, specialty, mobile, or independent walk-in clinic.

For severe symptoms or a possible emergency, call 911 and follow dispatch guidance. Do not use this directory, a rating, a posted wait time, or a price estimate to delay emergency care or self-route around emergency services.

Compare cost for one planned service, not one entire hospital

A useful cost comparison needs the same scheduled service or billing code, the same cash-versus-insurance basis, the exact plan and network, and the patient's current deductible and coinsurance. Hospital standard-charge files mix gross charges, discounted cash prices, negotiated rates, and billing methods; professional, anesthesia, radiology, pathology, or other bills may be separate. A hospital-wide cost rank would turn unlike numbers into a false answer.

Use the directory's official-estimator links where available, and use Nevada Hospital Price Finder as a statewide posted-rate comparison, not a patient-specific bill estimate. Request a written estimate for the same service from each candidate and confirm benefits with the insurer. For uninsured or self-pay care, ask whether the federal Good Faith Estimate protections apply. Unknown or unavailable estimates remain unknown and sort after usable evidence; they never become free. Emergency care should never be delayed to run a price comparison.

Compare hospitals for pregnancy and birth without a homemade ranking

CMS identifies 8 Clark County hospitals as Birthing-Friendly in the current directory snapshot. The designation means the hospital reported participation in a perinatal quality-improvement collaborative and implementation of recommended maternal-safety interventions. It is a useful structural signal, not a ranking, a condition-specific outcome score, a Baby-Friendly USA designation, or proof that the hospital fits a particular pregnancy.

Build the shortlist with the obstetric clinician: confirm delivery privileges, plan network, maternal-fetal-medicine access, 24-hour obstetric and anesthesia coverage, NICU level and neonatology support, transfer arrangements, induction and cesarean policies, lactation and postpartum support, visitor and doula rules, and the route from home. A freestanding birth center is a different care setting; discuss eligibility, emergency transfer, newborn support, and insurance before comparing it with a hospital.

Protect the chain of care before the move

Healthcare planning is less about finding a famous building than preserving an unbroken chain of care. Inventory the care used now, verify the future insurance network, confirm that necessary practices are accepting new patients, transfer records and prescriptions, and map urgent and emergency options from the actual address. Do not cancel a working relationship until the replacement path is real.

Start with care jobs, not hospital logos

Separate primary care, routine specialists, urgent care, emergency care, trauma, pediatric critical care, cancer care, brain health, Veterans care, surgery, imaging, infusion, rehabilitation, and pharmacy. A freestanding emergency department is not an urgent-care clinic; an outpatient specialty center is not a general hospital; and a trauma designation is a system capability, not a consumer ranking.

The main full-service systems

UMC and UMC Children’s anchor the Las Vegas Medical District and academic safety-net care. Sunrise Health, Valley Health System, and Dignity Health–St. Rose Dominican operate hospitals and other facilities across the valley, including Henderson. Intermountain Health and Optum Nevada/Southwest Medical add clinics and ambulatory services through their current location networks. Trauma and emergency care changed in 2026

Nevada’s official registry now lists two Level I adult trauma centers: UMC and Sunrise. UMC’s current distinction is Nevada’s only nonprofit Level I trauma center; UMC also reports the state’s only verified burn center and multi-organ transplant center. Distinctive specialty nodes

Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health is an outpatient specialty center for cognitive disorders, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuropsychology, research, and caregiver support, not a general hospital or emergency department. Comprehensive Cancer Centers is a distributed oncology practice and brand, not an NCI designation. The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System serves eligible and enrolled Veterans through its North Las Vegas medical center and outpatient network.

Pediatric and future-care claims need exact language

Sunrise Children’s provides pediatric emergency, intensive, neonatal, cardiac, and ECMO capabilities, while UMC Children’s holds the region’s pediatric trauma designation. Intermountain’s standalone Nevada Children’s Hospital is a future project projected for 2030; it is not open today. Families should verify the child’s exact specialty, hospital privileges, transfer relationships, and insurance network.

A practical continuity checklist

• Confirm the insurer, plan year, facility, physician, lab, imaging site, pharmacy, and referral rules separately.
• Ask each necessary clinician whether they are accepting new patients and what the likely appointment lead time is.
• Transfer medical, imaging, vaccination, medication, durable-equipment, and care-plan records before the move.
• Map primary care, usual urgent care, 24-hour pharmacy, nearest emergency department, and specialty destinations from the exact address.
• Keep an adequate medication bridge and ask the prescribing clinician about state-specific or controlled-medication rules.
• For complex care, confirm referral, transfer, prior-authorization, and out-of-area contingency plans in writing.

Test a prospective address against the care map

For each serious housing candidate, map the usual primary-care trip, the required specialist and facility, the preferred urgent-care option, the nearest appropriate emergency department, and a 24-hour pharmacy. Repeat the trips at realistic times and ask whether the route still works when someone is ill, a caregiver is driving, or an appointment lands during a workday. Distance alone does not capture freeway crossings, parking, transfers, or mobility needs.

Good capability does not erase access pressure

Nevada workforce researchers continue to document shortages and uneven geographic distribution. Facility count is not the same as timely access. The best pre-move test is concrete: call the insurer and likely practices, confirm new-patient status, ask for realistic appointment timing, and price the network before the relocation date.
