Home teams plus global event weekends
Las Vegas sports: how the valley became a major sports city
Plan Las Vegas sports across the Raiders, Golden Knights, Aces, Aviators, Lights, Silver Knights, UFC, Formula 1, NASCAR, basketball, and future MLB.

Las Vegas is already a serious sports city because it combines resident NFL, NHL, WNBA, Triple-A baseball, USL soccer, AHL hockey, and UNLV programs with UFC, Formula 1, NASCAR, boxing, NBA Summer League, and other event weekends. The important distinction is status: the Aces are a current WNBA home team; Las Vegas does not have an NBA franchise. The Athletics’ Las Vegas ballpark is under construction for a planned 2028 move; the team is not a current Las Vegas MLB home team.
Current team, recurring event, future project
Keep the three status columns separate
Las Vegas earns the sports-city label from both resident teams and recurring global events. The clearest guide says what plays here now, what visits on a calendar, and what remains a future project.
| Property | Status | Home or event venue | What that means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Las Vegas Raiders · NFL | Current resident team | Allegiant Stadium | Regular home schedule plus stadium-scale event logistics |
| Vegas Golden Knights · NHL | Current resident team | T-Mobile Arena | Regular home schedule in the central resort corridor |
| Las Vegas Aces · WNBA | Current resident team | Michelob ULTRA Arena | Resident professional basketball team, not an NBA franchise |
| Las Vegas Aviators · Triple-A | Current resident team | Las Vegas Ballpark | Athletics affiliate and local professional baseball |
| Las Vegas Lights FC · USL Championship | Current resident team | Cashman Field through Oct. 17, 2026 | Final Cashman season; the club has not named its 2027 venue |
| Henderson Silver Knights · AHL | Current resident team | Lee’s Family Forum | Golden Knights affiliate and Henderson home schedule |
| UNLV football and basketball | Current college programs | Allegiant Stadium / Thomas & Mack | Separate schedules, venues, ticketing, and event rules |
| UFC | Recurring event property | Meta APEX / T-Mobile Arena | Selected event series and arena cards; no generic nightly schedule |
| Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix | Recurring global event | Las Vegas street circuit | Date-specific event with substantial road and access effects |
| NBA Summer League | Recurring event | Thomas & Mack / Cox Pavilion | All 30 NBA teams visit; Las Vegas still has no NBA franchise |
| Athletics · MLB | Future Las Vegas project | Ballpark under construction | Planned 2028 move; regular home remains West Sacramento through 2027 |
| Check | Why it matters | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Exact venue and entrance | Large campuses, multiple gates, resort interiors, and temporary configurations | Team, venue, or event page |
| Ticket and bag policy | Mobile-ticket, entry, re-entry, prohibited-item, and bag rules vary | Selected event’s official policy |
| Parking / rideshare / transit | Reservations, zones, street closures, surge, and post-event queues change | Venue transportation page plus current road/transit notices |
| Accessibility | Seats, drop-off, shuttles, sensory services, companions, and devices are venue-specific | Venue accessibility contact before purchase |
| Weather and walking | Heat, sun, wind, and event closures can turn a short map line into a bad plan | Official forecast, alerts, and venue guidance |
| Return | The final mile is often the most congested | Preselect a sober, accessible, realistic trip home |

Important limitation: Schedules, venues, affiliations, event dates, access rules, and construction targets change. Verify the selected game or event directly; future plans are not current teams or operating venues.
Three layers make the sports city
Las Vegas works as a sports city because three calendars overlap: resident major-league teams, local development and college programs, and global event weekends. That creates more than one kind of fan trip, and more than one kind of traffic plan.
| Layer | Current examples | Planning consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Resident major teams | Raiders, Golden Knights, Aces | Use the current team and venue calendar; learn the building-specific arrival plan |
| Development and local programs | Aviators, Lights, Silver Knights, UNLV | Smaller or different venues mean different parking, timing, and neighborhood pairings |
| Recurring global events | UFC, Formula 1, NASCAR, boxing, NBA Summer League | Dates, footprints, lineups, road effects, and ticket rules are event-specific |
| Future project | Athletics’ planned Las Vegas ballpark | Track official construction and opening updates; do not plan as if it is a current home venue |
The permanent-team layer
The Raiders play at Allegiant Stadium, the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, and the Aces at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The Aviators bring Triple-A baseball to Las Vegas Ballpark, and the Henderson Silver Knights play AHL hockey at Lee’s Family Forum. The Lights play their final 2026 USL Championship home schedule at Cashman Field through October 17; the club has not named its 2027 venue. UNLV football uses Allegiant Stadium, while Runnin’ Rebels basketball plays at Thomas & Mack Center.

The event-city layer
UFC uses Meta APEX for selected Fight Nights, Contender Series, and related combat events, while its T-Mobile Arena agreement guarantees multiple arena events each year through 2030. Formula 1 runs a recurring street-circuit Las Vegas Grand Prix. Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts major NASCAR and NHRA weekends plus a broader motorsports calendar. Boxing remains card- and promoter-specific rather than a resident team sport.

Basketball needs one clean sentence
The Las Vegas Aces are the valley’s resident WNBA team. NBA Summer League brings all 30 NBA teams to Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion as a recurring event. Las Vegas does not have an NBA franchise as of September 2026. Expansion speculation is not a team announcement.
The Athletics belong in the future column
The Athletics’ Las Vegas stadium is under construction with a planned 2028 opening. The club’s 2025–27 regular home is in West Sacramento, with an option there for 2028 if needed. A construction milestone is real progress; it is not permission to call the A’s a current Las Vegas home team.
Plan the building, not just the game
Event logistics vary by venue and date. Confirm the exact entrance, mobile-ticket rules, bag policy, accessibility service, parking reservation, rideshare zone, transit or walking route, heat exposure, road closure, and return plan on the official venue or event page. Formula 1 and stadium-scale weekends can alter ordinary Strip assumptions well beyond the turnstile.
Pick the sports trip you are actually taking
| Trip | Build around | Do not forget |
|---|---|---|
| One home-team game | Venue entrance, arrival mode, nearby meal, return | Bag policy, mobile ticket, parking or rideshare zone |
| Arena-and-Strip evening | A compact pregame plan with deliberate walking margins | Resort interiors, pedestrian routes, heat, postgame pickup demand |
| Motorsports or street-circuit weekend | Official event transport and closure information | A city map that may operate differently from an ordinary weekend |
| Scouting the city through sports | One event plus normal errands and a home-to-venue route | Game-day excitement is evidence about game day, not every Tuesday |
